Indoor Beach Volleyball Rules
- The ball may be hit with any part of the body. (Players cannot use their feet to serve)
- A block does not count as a hit, as the blocker may hit the ball again.
- Players cannot carry or double contact the ball when setting the ball. (Any queries speak to the Manager)
- Setting is called on contact, with only spin being a good indication of double contact.
- Players are not recommended to set the serve (double contact is the more likely outcome). The serve should be played with the hands together or hit cleanly. This rule will be enforced strictly in all divisions.
- When playing a ball over the net, players must not use their fingers to “tip” the ball. In this situation the ball must be hit with a pass, fist, knuckles, set or spiked over the net.
- A ball that hits the line is considered “in”.
- If the ball hits the black poles, antenna’s or umpires stand it is considered “out”.
- If a hard driven ball is hit, you may be allowed to double contact or slightly hold onto the ball (a hard driven ball is one that travels at a straight angle).
- Foot faults are called only when the foot lifts the line.
- You may serve from anywhere behind the base line.
- Replays will be called if the ball is interfering with the play of the game (at umpire's discretion).
- If the ball hits the net on a hard driven ball it is NOT considered a hard driven ball if it changes speed or direction.
- The poles and chains are not a part of the net.
- In this centre you can have up to two service tosses and it is up to the umpire to tell players whose service it is.
- You can set over the net in any direction as long as it is clean in 4 to 6 a side.
- The ladder points are made of a win, loss and draw. Teams receive 4 points for a win, 0 points for a loss, 2 points for a draw, 4 points for a win on a forfeit and teams who forfeit will lose 1 point. Regardless of win or loss status
- Each 4 and 6 a side beach volleyball game consists of 3 x 13-minute sets. The-winning team will be the one who is leading by sets not by points at the end of the game.
- Each pairs beach volleyball game is 33 minutes in length. Scoring is based on the proper FIVB rules of three sets of 21, 21, 15. In the event time runs out before the game is completed a set will have been deemed to count if a team reaches 15 in the second set or 8 in the third. For a set to count that team must be leading by 2 or more points.
Umpiring for Beach Volleyball games will be strict. Please keep in mind that all carry and double hit decisions are subjective to the umpire's discretion and will try to accommodate a range of skill levels. Whilst being strict, the umpires will not try to “out referee” teams in the lower grades who are trying to perform the skills correctly. Please note the umpire's decision is final in all instances.
